If the box is empty

Have a phone number that is actually yours. We call the number on the note. A wrong digit wastes the time you just set aside, and we would rather spend it on the month.

If the work you want is the monthly close together with payroll setup and the return, say that in one breath. If you only want the open months caught up, say that instead. Naming the scope before the call is easier than renaming it after.

A time on the calendar

Write down the payroll service if one is already running. The first call does not need a password. It needs to know the service exists so setup starts in the right place.

What the call will not do

The opening call hires nobody. Money work begins only after both sides sign a writing that names the months, the payroll setup, and the fee. After the call you can still decide the work can wait. Walking away then is a finished outcome, not a failure.

You will not have to walk through the year a second time for a different person. The note and the call stay inside this practice. If the open month and the signature you need do not match this practice, you hear that on the same call, from the people who already read your note.
